A 15-minute AI literacy activity for your class
Students look at an image, describe it precisely in 60 seconds, and see instantly how their words change what the AI makes. It works on a projector or on student devices.
▶ Play freeWhat students learn
- Descriptive writing: precise nouns, adjectives, colors and setting.
- Vocabulary: art styles and materials (watercolor, pixel art, clay, neon).
- AI literacy: how image models read prompts, and why vague input gives generic output.
- Language learning: it works in 18 languages, so students can write in the language they are learning.
A simple lesson plan
- 2 min: show one round on the projector and read the scores out loud.
- 8 min: pairs play rounds against the bot or each other and keep their best prompt.
- 5 min: share the best prompts. Ask: which words made the biggest difference?
For ESL and language classes
Prompt Duel works as a picture description game for ESL students: learners must find the right nouns, adjectives, colors and prepositions under time pressure, and the score shows how clear their English was. Students can also speak their prompt with the microphone button, which turns it into a speaking activity. It is one of the few online games for ESL students that works for teenagers and adults as well as kids.
AI literacy talking points
- Why does a vague prompt give a generic image?
- The AI never saw the target image, only words. What does that tell us about how it works?
- Was the AI judge fair? When did it disagree with the class?
These questions turn a 1-minute game into a short AI literacy activity without slides or accounts.
Safety and privacy
No sign-up and no student accounts. Targets are family-friendly. Prompts are only used to make the round's pictures.
Example round
“an owl made of orange autumn leaves sitting on a tree branch”
“a cute bird picture”
